Recently, the Boston Globe featured a
piece on good job
interview practices. Following some of the advice from this piece, as well as
attending Democratic GAIN’s Resume & Job Search Tips Workshop next Thursday
the 20th, can put you a few steps closer to landing that dream job.
Remember -the job interview is a
conversation – don’t let it become one sided by rambling or being too short in
your responses to the interviewer.
Additionally, researching the firm you are
interviewing for is vital to interview success. Going into an interview with a solid
understanding of the employer is crucial. Make sure you have a basic
background on what the employer does and relevant recent news about the firm.
Be prepared to ask questions at the end - having no questions about the place
you are interviewing conveys that you are not engaged in what the organization
does. Also remember to never ask about benefits, vacation time, or salary
during the initial interview.
Try practicing a mock interview with a friend
in front of a video camera and look for ways to improve! Click here for more tips from the Globe's article.
