The Program

For decades, conservatives have ruled the airwaves, using well-funded platforms such as Fox News and an army of conservative talking heads to dominate the media landscape and perpetrate falsehoods on a variety of issues. Progressives simply cannot afford to yield the advantage of professional pundit training to conservatives any longer, especially around critical issues. That is why the Progressive Talent Initiative (PTI) launched in 2009.

PTI has two essential, interlocking components: messaging and practical media skills training. The program provides participants with the latest, most sophisticated research on impactful messages, and devotes multiple days to tactical nuts-and-bolts media training from top experts in the field. PTI prioritizes a hands-on approach; participants will spend time on camera practicing the skills they are taught including messaging, technique, tactics, style and how to effectively navigate hot button issues.

November 2013 Training

The Franklin Forum will host its next PTI media training November 20-23, 2013 in Washington, DC (from the morning of Wednesday, November 20th through the early afternoon of Saturday, November 23rd). This "generalist" training is specifically aimed at new and diverse voices able to speak on a variety of progressive issues. Previous TV appearances are not a requirement but participants must be able to speak intelligently on current issues, have a strong on-camera presence, and a true interest in being a media figure.

Participants are expected to engage in the full 4-day training. While breaks will be provided throughout the training, participants should not plan on being available for work or other personal commitments for the duration of the program. Once you're in DC, all costs for the training including materials, meals and lodging will be paid for by Franklin Forum. If you reside elsewhere, you will be responsible for booking and covering the cost of travel *.

* If the cost of travel is a barrier to your participation, please note this in your application.
