Please join the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and
Congressman Jim McGovern on Wednesday, June 25th from 10:00
am - 11:00 am in Cannon 210 for a briefing on improving access to the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for Latinos. While
studies have shown that food assistance programs, such as SNAP, have proven to
be effective at encouraging and enabling healthy eating among low income
families, these programs have struggled to adequately serve low-income Latino
families. Currently, the participation gap for Latinos stands at slightly
over 10 percentage points and many Latinos leave the program prematurely.
In an effort to explore disparities in SNAP enrollment, with the support
of the ConAgra Foods Foundation, NCLR conducted focus groups with Latino SNAP
participants to gain in-depth insight into their experiences with the
program. The briefing will explore the results of these focus
groups. Please feel free to forward and RSVP to vbenner@nclr.org.
