SPIN Academy 16

The 16th annual SPIN Academy is scheduled for August 26-29, 2014 in Petaluma, California.

The SPIN Academy trains communicators for social change on the building blocks of strategic communications. Our flagship Northern California event, now celebrating its sixteenth year, brings together a group of roughly 50 nonprofit communications professionals from across the country who are selected for participation through a competitive application process. More details on the selection criteria are available in our Application Guidelines.

SPIN Academy 16 will offer sessions on:

Branding for Nonprofit Organizations
Strategic Communications Planning
Message Development
Storytelling for Social Change
Strategic Use of Social Media
Spokesperson Skills

and many others. The event will also include participant-led TED-style talks on communications topics and participant-moderated Town Hall discussions on current challenges in their communications work.

More than 30 communications experts will be on site to provide expert guidance on the most important topics for communicators for change, from developing campaign communications strategies to crafting messages that resonate with target audiences and using social media to reach new audiences.

In addition, the Academy provides participants with one-on-one coaching from a Bay Area communications professional who helps them integrate what they’re learning in the workshop sessions and apply it to the work of their organizations.

Participants will also engage in valuable peer networking with other progressive communicators. They work for social change organizations from every region of the country working on a diverse set of issues, and representing different levels of experience with social change communications and organizational size and structure.

Every year, SPIN Academy graduates join the illustrious network of SPIN Academy Alumni who stay connected through our Facebook page, to share successes and challenges while supporting each other’s work.

The only prerequisite for acceptance to the SPIN Academy is your commitment to using strategic communications tools and techniques to advance your organization’s social change work.
