Serving in his third term in Congress, Ben Ray Luján has continues to stand up for New Mexicans. When credit card companies tried to take advantage of consumers, Ben stood up to them and cosponsored the Credit Card Holder's Bill of Rights. When insurance companies sought to drop sick patients and deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, Ben fought to reform health insurance and end their worst practices. When Wall Street refused to end the actions that got us into an economic mess, Ben took on Wall Street.

Congressman Luján knows that New Mexicans are still struggling in this difficult economy, and he's working to create and keep jobs in New Mexico. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, he is working hard to support the use of renewable energy and strengthen a sector that can bring jobs to many communities, particularly in the West.  As Co-Chair and founder of the Technology Transfer Caucus, he is focused on helping small business and our national laboratories work together to create new economic opportunities.

At the beginning of this Congress, Luján was named to the House Democratic Leadership as Chief Deputy Whip.  In addition, he serves as First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Prior to his election to Congress, Luján served as the chairman of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission where he represented North Eastern, North Central and Central New Mexico. On the PRC, Luján fought to improve health care for New Mexicans and increase renewable energy production in the state.

Before his election to the PRC, Luján served as the New Mexico Cultural Affairs Department's director of administrative services and chief financial officer. He also served as deputy state treasurer.
